Renowned for her exceptional vocal clarity and versatility in portraying complex characters, Raquel Suarez Groen is a formidable presence on both opera and theater stages. In 2017, she made her highly anticipated Broadway debut, captivating audiences with her portrayal of Carlotta Giudicelli in the timeless classic, The Phantom of the Opera. Her remarkable performance as Carlotta spanned an impressive five years, with over 1200 captivating renditions of the role before the production concluded in April 2023.

 

In addition to her stage accomplishments, Suarez Groen has also made a notable impact in the world of film and television. She graced the screen with her appearance in Law and Order: Organized Crime, while simultaneously captivating audiences through various print campaigns such as Injectafer, Randstadt and SculpSure. Furthermore, her vocal talents were showcased in a Best Buy holiday commercial. Notably, she also showcased her soloist abilities during NY Couture Fashion Week and performed alongside the Vancouver Philharmonic and Philadelphia Orchestra in a mesmerizing concert.

 

Looking ahead, Suarez Groen's upcoming engagements include a highly anticipated performance at 54 Below, Lisette in La Rondine with Opera on the James and portray the character of Mother in Ragtime with Toledo Opera.

 

Critics have consistently praised Suarez Groen's exceptional talent and dedication to her craft. Her portrayal of Roxanne in ¡Figaro! (90210), performed Off-Broadway at The Duke, garnered acclaim for her impeccable comedic timing and her poignant portrayal of the suffering Roxanne Conti. The Huffington Post summed up her performance as a tour-de-force, describing Suarez Groen as both “poignant and witty”.

 

Throughout her illustrious career, Suarez Groen has graced numerous operatic stages, leaving a lasting impression with her remarkable performances. Notable highlights include her debut with Opera Carolina as Marzelline in Fidelio, her portrayal of Frasquita in Carmen with Opera San Antonio and Venture Opera, and her captivating rendition of Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro with Opera on the James. She has also showcased her talent in roles such as Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi with DiCapo Opera, Gianetta in L'elisir d'amore with Opera in Williamsburg, the titular role in Cendrillon with New York Lyric Opera, and Kate Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly at Opera Lyra Ottawa.

 

Ms. Suarez Groen has garnered praise for her performances on concert stages across North America, Europe, and the Middle East. She returned to China as part of the iSing! International Festival, where she made her debut with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra in the MISA Festival (Music in Summer Air) under the baton of renowned conductor Maestro Yü Long. Notable highlights of her career include being a soprano soloist in Handel's Messiah in Calgary, Canada, participating in the International Vocal Arts Institute gala at the Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv, and performing in a gala concert broadcast on CCTV and Hunan TV in China. She has also been a featured soloist in various prestigious venues such as the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, Steinway Hall in New York City, the Tel Aviv Museum of Art for Mostly Mozart, and gala concerts for Opera on the James in Lynchburg, Virginia, and Syracuse Opera in Syracuse, New York.

 

Additionally, Ms. Suarez Groen holds a Master of Music degree and Certificate of Professional Studies in Opera Performance from the Manhattan School of Music. She has achieved high honors in vocal competitions, including the Louise Peckham Todaro Award in the Florida Grand Opera/Young Patronesses of the Opera Competition and a grant winner from the esteemed Giulio Gari International Vocal Competition. The Guilio Gari Foundation also recognized Ms. Suarez Groen with their prestigious Distinguished Alumni Award. She was also a Finalist in the New York Lyric Opera Competition at Carnegie Hall and has been a Full-Scholarship recipient of the International Vocal Arts Festival (IVAI) and the iSing! International Young Artist Festival.
